Two men charged for stealing batteries from Laurel Police vehicles

The Laurel Police Department says they arrested two men on Wednesday who reportedly stole batteries out of Laurel Police Department vehicles.

Police say they captured 27-year-old Robert Barger of Laurel and 26-year-old William Jackson V of Seaford after a brief foot chase when the two were spotted in the act of trying to steal batteries. Police say they found that 15 batteries and other equipment had been taken from police vehicles. Many of the vehicles also sustained window damage.

Police say Barger was out on bond from 44 charges and Jackson was wanted for failing to appear in court and violation of probation, while also being out on bond for one charge.

Barger and Jackson are both charged with third degree burglary, theft over $1,500, second degree conspiracy, criminal mischief, third degree criminal trespass and resisting arrest. Officials say Barger has been committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a cash bond of $13,200. Jackson has been committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $13,200 cash bond and a $1,000 secured bond.
