Salisbury University hosts first ever women’s conference

Wednesday, Salisbury University held its first ever International Women's Day conference.

It was titled Hearing Women's Voices.

The university says the event is part of a global celebration and call to action on the rights of women and girls.

47 ABC spoke to the conference's organizer, Elsie Walker, who is also a professor at SU.

Walker says the conference was an educational experience for all in attendance, including herself.

She told 47 ABC the presenters created a conversation among faculty and students, directly related to current issues.

“I'm also coming out of today feeling this tremendous sense of hope because there was a real diversity of perspective. This wasn't a kind of monolithic presentation of feminist values with one vision, one perspective, one way of talking,” Walker said.

Walker adds that she hopes this event is just the first of many like it.
