Locals hoping to open new community center

In Salisbury, a group of locals are trying to get some funding for a community center in town.

For years, Jermichael Mitchell along with several other community members have been renting out space on Calloway Street in Salisbury to provide a plethora of programs to people of all ages.

Whether its free zumba classes for adults, tutoring sessions for kids or basketball camps, Mitchell and a handful of others have utilized the space to bring more to the community.

And now they want to do more, but in order to do that they need more space, so they started a gofundme page in hopes of raising enough money to own the building themselves.

"There's not a lot of community centers that contribute to every age group and I think we do that with this center here," says local volunteer, Tamyra Foreman.

Heather Buckner, another volunteer says, "he [Jermichael] would do anything for these kids and I literally mean almost anything to make sure that they're not on the streets, to give them a place to go so when it's raining outside instead of going to Dover-Del they come here to play ball."

They know making this building their own won't happen overnight, but they will continue to make strides in making this community center a reality and hope that this gofundme page will help get them one step closer.
