DSP: 18-year-old arrested for homicide in Laurel

The Delaware State Police have arrested 18-year-old Stephon R. Jackson for Murder 1st Degree and Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited.

DSP say on February 23, 2017, Jackson was initially charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, as well as the two new charges of Receiving Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest.

According to police, he was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $22,000.00 cash bond and on March 4, 2017, Jackson was released from Sussex Correctional Institute after posting bail.

After his release, officials report that additional warrants were approved for Murder 1st Degree and Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited.

Delaware Sate Police originally had a death investigation following a shooting that occurred in Laurel on January 29, 2017.

We are told at 3:45 p.m. troopers were called to assist the Laurel Police Department for the complaint of shots fired in the area of Sunset Drive, in the Wexford Village Development, Laurel.

Upon their arrival, officials state that an 18-year-old-male had been struck in his lower torso by a bullet.

The victim was treated at the scene by Sussex County Paramedics and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
