Delaware Forest Service creates new online tool to analyze community tree canopy

The Delaware Forest Service has released a new online tool that helps residents measure their tree canopy percentage.
A tree canopy percentage shows how many trees exist around a household and the amount that could exist.
Tree canopy is important because it provides numerous social benefits, such as better air and water quality, reduction in UV radiation, as well as improving property value for your home.
This new geographic tool now allows any resident in Delaware to type in their location to scope out their tree canopy.
It allows those to search all the other areas throughout the state. Either in a home owner association or a community, one can check the tree cover data in their community.
Delaware Forest Service tells 47 ABC, they hope this tool will raise awareness for those to continue growing their tree cover. Click here if you would like to see your community's tree canopy.
If you click here, residents can learn about the work of the Urban and Community Forestry Program and even learn about how to select, plant, and care for a new tree.
