$4.1 million in grants to increase healthcare access

Thursday, the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission, or CHRC, announced $4.1 million in grants.
The grants aim to expand access in underserved areas, reduce health disparities and to help reduce avoidable hospital utilization.
There are local projects that will receive grants as well.
The Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services will be able to increase access to behavioral health services, addressing a current 3-month waiting list for clients seeking services.
This program will receive $125,000.
And the Somerset County Health Department will receive $130,000 expanding activities to address obesity and promote food security.
These programs have collectively served more than $320,000 low-income and uninsured or underinsured Marylanders.
