Wheel chair ramp construction underway for Princess Anne family

Saturday morning, construction was underway for the first phase of the Downing project in Princess Anne.

The project will expand the home of Valentina Downing. Downing is the grandmother and guardian to the two Sells children who were brutally attacked back in early December.

According to police, their mother's boyfriend allegedly attacked the children and their mom with a hammer. Their mother Airelle Sells passed away after the attack.

On Saturday, local law enforcement and members of the community gathered to build a wheel chair ramp for the home.

"When it comes down to the tragedy and event that we all dealt with, and see everybody that has come out with a helping hand , it's a blessing to our community," says Chief Rondell Redding from the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company.

The ramp is  expected to be completed by Saturday. The spring renovations to the house's back deck are expected to begin soon. Habitat for Humanity is still seeking $12,000 for the rest of the costs.
