UPDATE: Victim identified in deadly Laurel shooting

UPDATE:  Delaware State Police have released the name of the victim shot and killed last Sunday in Laurel.

Mekell Horsey, 18, of Laurel, was identified Friday morning as the homicide victim.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science says an autopsy confirmed a gunshot wound to the chest as Horsey's cause of death.

The DSP Homicide Unit reports no arrests have been made as of yet.

January 29, 2017; 7:22 PM: A death investigation is underway after a shooting leaves one man dead, troopers announced Sunday evening.

According to Delaware State Police, the shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. Sunday near Sunset Drive in Laurel in the Wexford Village Development.

An initial investigation has revealed as an 18-year-old male victim was struck in his lower torso by a bullet fired from an unknown suspect.

The victim was treated at the scene before he was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a press release sent Sunday, Corporal Jeffrey Hale says the victim's body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Sciences. An autopsy is expected to be performed to determine the manner and cause of death.

We're told the investigation into this incident by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is in its early stages. No arrests have been made as of 7 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
