UPDATE: Indian River School District requesting reimbursement from fire company

The Indian River School District is reaching out to entities that may have benefited from financial discrepancies found in an audit last year under their former chief financial officer Patrick Miller.

The school board has reached out to the Indian River Fire Company in a letter dated on January 18.

According to the audit, several purchases were made which ultimately yielded thousands of dollars in profits to the fire company.

The school district is asking for reimbursement of more than 4,900 dollars.

According to the letter, school officials have requested a response and/or reimbursement no later than Tuesday.

The matter is expected to be turned over to the District's attorneys.

47ABC made several attempts Tuesday to reach the Indian River Fire Company for a comment in regards to the request.

A statement on their official website reads: "The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company received notice that the Indian River School District is seeking reimbursement of funds resulting from what may have been questionable transactions between the school district and the fire company which came to light as a result of an audit of the school district. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is investigating this matter and promises its full cooperation to resolve this matter to the satisfaction of the school district, the fire company and the public at large."
