Uber driver charged with burglarizing customers’ homes

Saddam A. Awadallah, 26, of Frankford, Del.

Delaware State Police and the Bethany Beach Police Department say a six month-long joint investigation into multiple burglaries around Sussex County has led to the arrest of a Frankford Uber driver.

Saddam A. Awadallah, 26, reportedly burglarized the residences of the people he transported as an Uber driver.

Police say when the passengers were away from their homes, Awadallah would enter their residences and steal various items such as credit cards, computers, cell phones and watches.

Awadallah reportedly drove a white 2004 Toyota Sienna and transported people in the Ocean City and Dewey Beach areas.

Police say authorities in Tennessee arrested Awadallah and he was extradited back to Delaware on Monday.

He is charged with three counts of second degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft of a victim aged 62 or older, criminal mischief and 11 counts of theft.

Awadallah has been committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a bond of $31,000.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Awadallah is encouraged to call Detective T. Powell at 302-752-3807 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
