Study shows Worcester County is ideal outdoor sports complex

Minor league hockey won't be coming to Worcester County after an economic study said there would only be a limited market demand, however the study showed the county could benefit from an outdoor sports complex that would have professional grade fields.
The study done by the Maryland Stadium Authority found that adding the complex would grow the regions economic impact as well as give the county a place to host large scale sports tournaments.
Those tournaments are usually for youth and amateur sports and often attract families who travel with the teams.
"We would like to invite those people to the beach we have a very capable and very healthy hospitality and tourism industry there with open arms ready for those folks. So that's going to be what our opportunities are right now," said Worcester County Economic Development Director Merry Mears.
The facility would end up in the northern part of the county either in Ocean City or Berlin.
We're told the project is now in phase two which lays out a potential business plan.
Mears said several investors have already indicated interest in taking on the project.
