A Salisbury man was transported to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore after sustaining injuries in a house fire Sunday afternoon.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal says firefighters responded at around 12:22 PM to a fire at a one-story house on Cherry Way in Salisbury. It took 33 firefighters approximately one hour to control the fire, officials said.

A 59-year-old man inside the home was transferred to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, then was medevaced to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

Fire marshals say the home did not have a smoke alarm. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, reportedly resulting from an electric space heater.

Damages are estimated at $60,000 for the structure and another $20,000 for the contents of the home, officials said.
