Salisbury City Council plans to open new community center

The Salisbury City Council recently voted to purchase a 3,700 square foot building on 306 Newton Street.

The house on the corner will upgrade into a community center.

The area was recommended to the council by Salisbury's Youth Development Advisory committee.

The president of the City Council, Jack Heath, told 47 ABC that the center is a great location due to the playground across the street, as well as the Camden community garden, where much of the youth participate.

We are told the community center will provide services such as mentoring programs as well as after school programs.

Heath said the center is really to encourage children to get involved with something positive.

We are told they are hoping to upgrade the building as quickly as possible, since they do have funding available from last year's budget.
