Resolution passes giving MD AG authority to sue Trump administration

Maryland's General Assembly on Wednesday voted to pass a resolution giving Attorney General Brian Frosh blanket authorization to sue the federal government.
The measure would allow Frosh to challenge the Trump administration on items such as undocumented immigrants, health care and refugees.
The joint resolution called "The Maryland Defense Act of 2017" passed quickly through the House and Senate despite stiff opposition from Republicans.
Monday after a press conference in Salisbury, Md. Governor Larry Hogan was critical of the measure.
"It's unfortunate they seem to be trying to change the basic laws of Maryland just because we have a governor of a different party," Hogan said. "I wish that the legislature would focus on the problems we have here in Maryland and the 31 proposals we have in front of the legislature, rather than trying to just play politics in Washington. That's not really their job."
Because the measure is joint resolution, it will take effect without Hogan's signature.
