Rate decrease approved by Delaware Electric Co-op board of directors

All 93,000 Delaware Electric Cooperative customers can soon expect a rate decrease, Delaware Electric Co-op officials announced Wednesday.

The board of directors of the utility co-op voted Wednesday to approve a decrease that lowers electric bills by 5 percent starting on March 1st.

"Falling wholesale power costs and member participation in our Beat the Peak program allowed us to take this action," Co-op President and CEO Bill Andrew said. "While there is no guarantee rates will remain this low, the Co-op currently offers the lowest annualized electric rates in the state, and that's something we're very proud of."

Utility officials say the rate decrease is estimated to save an average family using 1,000 kilowatt-hours about $6 per month, or $72 per year.
