Parking violation leads to heroin bust; two Magnolia men arrested

Delaware State Police say they arrested two men in Magnolia on Monday morning when officers found more than 350 bags of heroin in their possession.
At around 10 AM, police say a trooper on patrol saw a car illegally parked on the roadway in the 400 block of Lambert Drive. After approaching the vehicle to speak to the occupants, troopers reportedly picked up an odor of marijuana.
The driver, 24-year-old Quamere Johnson of Magnolia, a front-seat passenger, 22-year-old Derek Hopkins of Magnolia, and a female passenger in the back seat were all asked to step out of the vehicle. Troopers searched Johnson and reportedly found 64 bags of heroin. A search of Hopkins reportedly turned up 292 bags of heroin and $1,000 in cash of suspect drug proceeds.
Troopers arrested Johnson and Hopkins, charging them possession of heroin, possession with intent to deliver heroin, second degree conspiracy, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say Johnson was also cited for his parking violation.
Police say Johnson was released on $42,301 unsecured bond while Hopkins was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a cash bond of $122,300. The woman passenger faced no charges and was released at the scene, officials said.
