One home helping thousands

The house may look like any other newly built house, but the reason why this house was built makes it one of the most unique houses in Delaware.

"We're here to celebrate this Home for Hope, the first Home for Hope that's been built in Delaware."

This means the house was not built for profit, instead it was built and sold to help thousands of families around the globe living in impoverished areas.

It's helping 3,000 families to be exact.

Home for Hope Executive Director Jack Nulty explains just how that works.

"What happens is, somebody is living in a really underserved country around the world who's just so impoverished, will receive a small amount of money to start a business and then take the earnings from that business and pay for the things that they need."

So the home is built and then it's sold and its those earnings from the home that are then given to Home for Hope to help those impoverished families.

It was this concept of helping families pull themselves out of poverty that really grabbed the attention of Bay to Beach Builders owners, Carla and Deric Parker.

Parker tells 47 ABC, "We learned about Home for hope about two years ago we were at a home builders conference and we talked to a representative there and we just felt like overtime it just kind of weighed on us that we wanted to become involved in it."

They presented the idea to their trade partners and were blown away by the level of generosity.

They received donations of all kinds including building materials, to get the home built and with the help of over 100 people the plan turned into a reality.

The project was complete just after three months of construction..

"Very humbling project for us, team building as well. You know when everybody works together for a project that's bigger than ourselves, there's an energy created there that's pretty exciting," explains Parker.

And with the house already sold to an area family, a donation of over $100,000 will be going to Home for Hope to help families in Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
