Local animal shelter takes in over two dozen dogs from Louisiana

The Animal Welfare League of Queen Anne's County is doing something they have never done before.
They are accepting dogs from outside of the county to help an overcrowded animal shelter in Louisiana.
A truck filled with 21 eager four-legged friends made their way to Queenstown Monday afternoon after an over 24 hour road trip in hopes of finding a forever home here on the Eastern Shore.
The dogs are from an Animal Welfare Society near New Orleans where the destruction from a recent tornado contributed to the the overcrowding.
Shelter manager, Kirstyn Northrop Cobb, from the Animal Welfare League tells 47 ABC they have been anticipating this day for quite some time.
"We had open space and I heard through other rescue contacts that the shelter down in New Orleans was flooded, not water flooded, but flooded. [It] was super full and needed assistance and so we jumped right in there to help," explains Kirstyn.
Kirstyn tells 47 ABC that the next step is getting the dogs some veterinary care and then by Thursday she says they should be ready for adoption.
47 ABC will have even more on this story and this exciting first day at the shelter Tuesday, February 21st, at 10 p.m. on the CW and 11 p.m. on ABC.
