Groundbreaking takes places for the Downing Project

Habitat for Humanity and the Chesapeake Housing Mission along with other community leaders held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Downing Project on February 17, 2017.
Many have pledged to help upgrade the home of Valentina downing.
She is the grandmother of Naomy and Aydahnn Sells. They were victims of a violent attack back on December 6th, 2016.
Their mother's boyfriend allegedly attacked the children and their mom with a hammer. Airelle Sells passed away six days later.
Ever since then, the community has rallied for this family.
Because of the children's medical needs, the house needs some work.
At the event, Naomy was even there with a smile on her face.
Downing tells 47 ABC, "Naomy as you can tell is doing great, Adyahann we're still working on things. He's kind of moving that left side and you know he's able to put some weight on it. So a little better than he was a couple of weeks ago. Things are coming along, we're waiting for Adyahann second surgery."
They will add on a handicap ramp on February 18, 2017.
About $40,000 has been pledged by contractors, $26,000 has been donated from the community but they are still seeking $12,000 for the rest of the costs.
