Georgetown’s upcoming Democratic-led rally responds to the silencing of Senator Warren

The Sussex County Democratic Party and the Progressive Democrats of Sussex County are rallying community members together, in response to the silencing of Senator Elizabeth Warren on February 7th, 2017.

Senator Elizabeth Warren was speaking in the Senate in opposition to the nomination of Jeffrey Sessions for Attorney General.

Joanne Cabry, the chair of the Progressive Democrats of Sussex County, says Senator Warren's opposition was done through a letter led by the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s wife, Coretta Scott King, when she was silenced.

Another rally leader, Jane Hovington, the chair of Sussex County Democratic Committee tells us why she thinks Warren was hushed.

Hovington states, "He did not want in the record because they wanted to approve his position making him attorney general."

And what caused the democratic party to be even more angry was that back in 1986, the majority leader at the time blocked Coretta Scott king's letter from entering the congressional record.

Now, they say they do not want to be silenced any longer.

We are told the letter spoke on accusations made against Jeff Sessions.

Cabry tells 47 ABC, "He has a record of biased, prejudice bigotry. Coretta Scott King spoke out and wrote an elegant letter protesting the nomination or appointment of that time Attorney General Sessions."

We are told Senator Warren decided to read that letter again, as she does not believe that Sessions has fully changed.

Hovington says they are creating this rally to not only unite everyone, but to finally see appropriate changes being made.

The rally will start at 3 p.m. at the circle in Georgetown on February 12, 2017.

King's Letter will be read at the rally and following that, they will march to Democratic Headquarters.

They say they will discuss what they can do to continue this movement.

47 ABC reached out to the Sussex County Republican Committee, as well as Delaware's Republican Party, but we have not received a response yet.
