Families travel to Annapolis in support of Healthy Working Families Act

Thursday, parents and children dressed in superhero capes and traveled to Annapolis.
They urged lawmakers to use their own super powers to make a positive change for working families.
They want lawmakers to approve the Healthy Working Families Act, also known as HB1.
This legislation would allow more than 720-thousand workers in Maryland, who currently don’t earn paid sick days, to start earning paid sick days.
The organization Moms Rising, coordinated the event.
Ruth Martin, the campaign director, told 47 ABC that this bill would improve the quality of life for all parents and children in the state.
“When they get sick or their children get sick, they're stuck in this impossible situation where they have to make a very difficult choice,” Martin said. “Do they stay home to get better? Or keep their child home and stay home with their child and risk losing a day's pay? Or even their job?"
“That's a choice that nobody should have to make. We all get sick. We all deserve time to get better,” Martin added.
The Maryland House and Senate committees will hold a hearing next week regarding the legislation.
