Dorchester County correctional officer charged with assault and misconduct

The Office of the State's Attorney for Dorchester County says a correctional officer who worked at the Dorchester County Detention Center has been indicted on assault and misconduct charges.

The Grand Jury for Dorchester County handed down the indictment on Friday, charging Charles Robert Neild with second degree assault and misconduct in office.

The Office of the State's Attorney says these charges come after an investigation conducted by the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office after an inmate was reportedly assaulted.

Dorchester County State's Attorney William H. Jones says that this indictment is an allegation and not an indication of guilt; all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
