Del. residents respond to Sen. Warren being silenced

Sunday afternoon,  dozens of residents and community organizers gathered  at the Georgetown Circle. This  was all part of the 'We Will Not Be Silenced' rally, which is in response to the silencing of U.S Senator for Massachusetts Elizabeth Warren by senate majority leader Mitch McConnell.

"We are here today to publicly give notice to Mitch McConnell that we will not be silenced when he abuses his authority,' says the Joanne Cabry, the Chair of ther Progressive Democrats of Sussex County.

On February 7th, Senator Warren opposed the confirmation of then Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions during her  reading of a 30 year old letter written by Corretta Scott King. In that letter, Scott King also expressed her opposition to the nomination of Sessions for a federal judgeship.

During the Sunday rally,  the letter was read out loud. Cabry explains, it's a way to stand in solidarity with both Scott King and Senator Warren.

"Let's honor the memory  of Coretta Scott king and stand with senator Elizabeth Warren. Let's draw from their courage and remember their persistence," says Cabry.

Organizers of the rally tell 47 ABC, the rally is meant to unite but also send a message to Congress that the silencing of women will not be tolerated.

47 ABC reached out to the Sussex County Republican Committee for a comment in regards to this matter. Chairman Billy Carroll says he believes the Sussex County Democratic Party is a good group. He also says, that he  wishes members of Congress would shift their focus on more important matters, for example providing more employment opportunities.
