Civil case involving MSP trooper reaches verdict

Thursday afternoon, the civil case against a Maryland State trooper accused of killing a Berlin teen with his patrol car more than 3 years ago wrapped up.
A Worcester County jury found all parties in the the civil case negligent against Maryland State Police trooper Nicholas Hager. Tymeir Dennis and Tyheym Bowen were found to be contributory negligent .
In November 2013, 16 year old Tymeir Dennis and his 18 year old brother Tyheym Bowen were making their way across Route 113 near Bay Street when Trooper Nicholas Hager reportedly tried to avoid the boys but struck them both.
Sixteen year old Tymier died of his injuries. His older brother had his leg amputated as a result of his injuries.
During closing arguments, the plaintiff's attorney claimed Trooper Hager was negligent for speeding and reportedly not staying in his lane.
The defense argued that the teens were wearing dark clothes during the time of the accident and saw the dangers in crossing the street, but still took the risk.
One thing thing that both sides agree on was the outcome of the collision was tragic.
The family of the teens was seeking damages for the medical expenses and anguish caused by this accident, but being that all parties were found negligent no damages will be awarded.
47 ABC did reach out to members of the family, but they declined to comment. We also reached out to Maryland State Police about the verdict and tell us they are waiting to be briefed on the tri and cannot speak on the outcome as of Thursday afternoon.
In terms of criminal charges, the state did not file charges against Trooper Hager after the incident.
