Cardin on travel ban: “This executive order has made America less safe.”

U.S. Senator for Maryland Ben Cardin is commending the "three co-equal branches of government" following news of a temporary restraining order against President Trump's temporary travel ban.
U.S. District Court James Robart of Washington issued the temporary order Friday, which blocks provisions of Trump's executive order banning citizens and refugees of seven Muslim-majority from entering the U.S. for 90 days.
"This decision shuts down the executive order immediately, shuts it down," says Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson.
Trump responded on Twitter saying "The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!".
According to the Associated Press, Vice President Mike Pence says he doesn't believe President Trump's reference to the "so-called judge" undermines the separation of powers in the Constitution.
In a statement, Senator Cardin says the three branches of government serve as a "strong check and balance" system on both the President and Congress.
"When the President of the United States abuses or ignores the Constitution, and attacks the integrity of the judiciary by calling a ruling 'outrageous' or calls a judge a 'so-called judge,' he is undermining the entire system of government, not only the decisions with which he disagrees," Cardin said in a statement.
On Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security announced it would suspend its moves to implement the travel ban. The State Department has also stopped canceling visas.
Cardin's statement goes on to say he believes the executive order "has made America less safe" and that Maryland residents seeking assistance navigating the current visa situation can contact his office at webmaster@cardin.senate.gov.
