UPDATE: Road closures due to flooding and debris

UPDATE 5:40 PM:

In Sussex County, Route 1 between Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach is closed due to flooding, DelDOT announced.

There are reports of two feet of water on roads in Oak Orchard.

Multiple other low-lying roads throughout Sussex County are seeing high water levels at this time.

 

DelDOT reports the following roads in Kent County are closed:

North Market at 12th Street

South Market at 12th Street

 

The following roads in Kent County have water on the road surface:

Port Mahon Road

Ponderosa Drive at Barkers Landing Road

Cypress Drive at Evergreen Road

Herbert Road

UPDATE 2 PM: DelDOT officials now report multiple roads closed in Kent and Sussex Counties due to high water and fallen debris.

In Kent County, Port Mahon Road is closed due to high water. Water is also reported on the roadway on Old State Road at Corbitt Road.

Trees have fallen on Deep Grass Lane and Gun & Rod Club Road.

In Sussex County, DelDOT is reporting flooding at Cedar Beach Road, Lighthouse Road, South Inlet Road at Indian River Inlet and several roads in Oak Orchard.

Waterview Road is reportedly closed between Camp Arrowhead Road and Foley Branch.

DelDOT reports a utility pole has fallen on Shortly Road between U.S. Route 113 and Bull Pine Road. Shortly Road is closed until the pole is moved.

DelDOT additionally reports wires have fallen on Millsboro Highway and Godwin School Road.

Downed trees litter various other roadways in the county.

10 AM: Officials from the Delaware Department of Transportation say they have been monitoring heavy winds and bands of rain affecting Delaware throughout the morning hours on Monday.

DelDOT officials say to be prepared for possible downed power lines, trees and other debris in Delaware roads.

Additionally, the DelDOT Transportation Management Center warns drivers of tractor trailers, box delivery trucks, RVs, vehicles towing trailers and other high profile vehicles to avoid bridges during high winds.

DelDOT says they are readying generators in case of traffic signal-impacting power outages.

So far, DelDOT reports that Sussex County is already seeing several roadways impacted by downed trees and minor flooding.
