UPDATE: Dover mayor calls airport shooting “senseless”, victim ID’d as Del. woman

Mass shootings, no matter where they happen, are far-reaching in the pain they cause.

Authorities with Broward County, Florida have now identified a Dover, Delaware woman as one of the five victims fatally shot at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

69 year-old Mary Louise Amzibel, originally from Ohio, was in the airport's baggage claim when Esteban Santiago reportedly opened fire, fatally shooting five travelers and wounding six others.

Ambizel's identity was released to members of the press in an email Wednesday night by Kimberly Maroe, public information officer for the Broward County Commission.

Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen tells us the city is mourning this tragedy and although he didn't know Amzibel personally, he did have a connection.

In an interview Thursday, he tells 47ABC his grandson was a student of Ambizel's daughter who taught at William Henry Middle in Dover.

He called the shooting "a senseless tragedy" that has struck deep in the hearts of people in Dover.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Mrs. Amzibel's family at this heartbreaking news, and we pray for the speedy recovery of her husband who was also injured and we pray for an end to this senseless violence that is sweeping our nation," says Mayor Christiansen.

Maroe also confirmed the names of the other four victims, who had already been identified by the press. They are 70-year-old Shirley Wells Timmons of Ohio; 57-year-old Michael John Oehme of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 84-year-old Olga M. Woltering of Marietta, Georgia; and 62-year-old Terry Michael Andres of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
