Ocean Pines Police granted with new technology to quickly identify suspects

Governor Larry Hogan provided a $30,000 grant to Ocean Pines Police Department.

The grant supports criminal justice initiatives that are critical to Maryland's goal to keep communities safe.

This technological upgrade is allowing officers to quickly identify suspects involved in criminal situations.

This new system is a finger and palm printing machine.

Law enforcement agencies say that at least 30% of the prints lifted from crime scenes are actually from palms, not finger prints.

The machine will immediately search state and federal criminal history databases for warrants that may still be in effect.

The Ocean Pines Police Department says they had an old system that was no longer in use and needed an upgrade, so that's why they apply for the grants.

We are told through these grants, it is the only way possible to even get this type of machine.

Now this machine was just installed about two weeks ago for its new update and has been finally in use this past week.
