Ocean City man arrested for August bank robbery

Tyrone Pierce, 59, Ocean City, Md.

Ocean City Police say they arrested a suspect last Thursday who they believe was responsible for a Bank of Ocean City robbery last August.

Tyrone Pierce, 59, of Ocean City was reportedly arrested without incident at his home in the 10300 block of Coastal Highway.

He is charged with armed robbery, theft of less than $10,000, illegal possession of a firearm and the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.

Pierce is accused of robbing the Bank of Ocean City at 12109 Coastal Highway on August 24, 2016.

Police say crime scene technicians who processed the scene submitted DNA evidence to the Maryland State Police Crime Lab. The crime lab contacted Ocean City detectives and alerted them that DNA matching Pierce was found at the crime scene.

Police say Pierce's DNA sample was on file from a Wicomico County bank robbery back in 2001.

Pierce is being held without bond at the Worcester County Jail, officials said.
