Ocean City council green lights boardwalk refurbishment

The Ocean City Town Council approved a bid on Tuesday to repair high traffic areas of the Ocean City boardwalk.

Public Works Director Hal Adkins says more repairs are needed than initially expectedboards are splintering and delaminating in areas of heavy foot traffic.

Kade Construction of Berlin made a bid of $38,104 to do repairs, the lowest cost bid out of several that ranged upwards to more than $400,000.

The council approved Kade's bid and allocated $10,000 from the State of Maryland to offset costs.

The council expects to put aside $30,000 to $40,000 each year towards the rolling boardwalk refurbishment project, as surface wood planks need replacement approximately every nine years according to City Engineer Terry McGean.
