OC hosts their 19th Annual Beach Blanket Blood Drive

Blood banks claim the winter months can be a difficult time of the year to maintain the blood supply, which is why they have events like the Beach Blanket Blood Drive in Ocean City.
It gives inventory a big boost in a matter of a day.
This was the 19th annual event hosted by the Blood Bank of Delmarva.
They had almost 400 donors come out to this one day event at the Ocean City Convention Center.
A blood drive coordinator tells 47 ABC that they are in need of O Negative blood type, which is used in trauma situations. But all blood types are needed, as well.
The drive supplies 17 hospitals on the Delmarva Peninsula and this blood within the next 3 days will be shipped out to those hospitals.
We are told this is their biggest event for the winter but donations are accepted year-round at the facility in Salisbury.
The Blood bank of Delmarva plans to return to ocean city for another event in may.
