MLK, Jr. Day: A day “on”, not off for Del. school

For schools and some businesses across the country, Monday was a day off in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday; however, at Delaware State University, they recognize it as a day "on".
Prayers, speeches and musical tributes were among the key features of the annual celebration.
Hundreds headed to DSU on Monday, including the Sanfoka African Dance Company and Sanfoka string orchestra.
String orchestra director Christy Taylor tells 47ABC the groups put endless hours into practicing, generally about two hours at a time. She adds it's well worth it to give back during the holiday.
"Dr. King's message is for us to just go out and publicly embrace what's out there and encourage folks to be apart of something that is positive on this day particularly. His life has just been a wonderful expression of what we should be doing in our communities of service," explains Taylor.
This is the 31st year DSU has hosted this celebration.
