Millsboro daycare worker sentenced for criminally negligent death of baby

Valorie Handy was sentenced Friday morning to two and a half years in prison, followed by six months of home confinement and two years of probation, Delaware Department of Justice officials said.
Handy, 52, of Millsboro, had been accused of killing a 10-month old baby boy at her home daycare in January 2015.
The state claimed the child died from a large amount of diphenhydramine that was reportedly found in his system. The antihistamine, which can can cause drowsiness, is an active ingredient in Benadryl.
The baby was unresponsive when Handy tried to wake him up from a nap at Handy's Little Disciples on Layton-Davis Road.
Handy was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in December.
