Maryland Comptroller opens first remote call center in Salisbury

Franchot opens call center in Salisbury

Along with the open of tax season in Maryland Monday also marked the grand opening of the comptroller's first ever remote call center. The call center could have gone anywhere in the state, but Comptroller Peter Franchot picked Salisbury as the home for the new center.

"It's a big deal for us to have it. I'm delighted that we're placing on the shore," Franchot said."We want to spread the wealth of jobs, the good salaries and good service all around the state."

The opening of the office furthers Franchot's commitment to bringing great customer service to Marylanders by cutting down caller wait times to get help with their taxes.

"Within a couple of minutes, you know we're not perfect, but within a couple of minutes a live friendly well informed professional staff person will be on the phone to answer your question and help you fill out whatever form it is you're concerned about," Franchot said.

Possibly more significant than providing help to tax payers is the fact that call center marks another step in the right direction for Salisbury's economy.

According to Salisbury Mayor Jake Day, in 2016  Salisbury  saw 1,650 new jobs added to the city.

The opening of the call center during the first month of 2017 keeps up that pace.

"To see 25 more jobs added in one place, in one employer is incredible and it's rare. You know typically those jobs are added one or two at a time, to see 25 jobs that's a huge jump for us," Day said.

As part of the grand opening ceremony, Day also proclaimed January 23rd as "Comptroller Peter Franchot Day"   for Franchot's continued dedication to the city.
