Man involved in deadly 2016 OC fight sentenced on manslaughter charge

The Worcester County State's Attorney's Office says a Baltimore County man has been sentenced on a manslaughter charge related to a May 2016 fight in Ocean City that left one man dead.
Darren Beattie, 21, of Sparrows Point was sentenced to ten years in prison, but will only have to serve six years unless he violates probation upon his release, Worcester County State's Attorney Beau Oglesby said.
The deadly altercation took place in the early morning hours of May 29th at the intersection of 136th Street and Coastal Highway.
31-year-old Ryan Shupert was injured in the fight and transported to the ICU at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He died two days later from his injuries.
Oglesby commented that Shupert was an organ donor, someone who gave life, while Beattie was a life-taker.
Beattie will additionally pay a fine and undergo a mental health and substance abuse evaluation, officials said.
