Man found guilty for crashing into Salisbury Police officer

Michael Victor Rayne, 29, Salisbury, Md.

A Salisbury man was convicted Wednesday for assaulting a police officer in June of 2015, the Office of the State's Attorney for Wicomico County announced.

Michael Victor Rayne, 29, was found guilty of second degree assault and related charges emanating from a head-on collision between Rayne and a Salisbury City Police vehicle in the early morning hours of June 9, 2015.

Officials say at around 4 that morning, officers responded to a residence on Camden Avenue on a call of a domestic assault.

When police arrived, Rayne got into his car and fled the scene, officials said. As he was fleeing, Rayne reportedly crossed the center line of the road and slammed into a police car being driven by Officer Zachary Converse of the Salisbury Police Department.

Crash investigators said Rayne was driving over 80 mph just before the time of impact.

Officer Converse suffered serious injuries from the crash.

Rayne was sentenced by a Circuit Court judge to serve 10 years in the Division of Corrections.
