Indian River High School teacher arrested for coercion

Delaware State Police say a health teacher at Indian River High School was arrested last week on charges of coercion.

Paris Mitchell, 41, of Milton, was arrested on January 18th when he allegedly threatened to reveal information about inappropriate relationships between teachers and students if a meeting was to take place between other staff members.

Police say Mitchell was arraigned and released on $1,000 unsecured bond with a no contact order with the Indian River School District.

There are no active investigations regarding student-teacher relationships, police said.

The Indian River School District tells 47 ABC that Mitchell has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the judicial process.

School officials say Mitchell's claim of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student was investigated by the district and found to be unsubstantiated.
