Felton man charged with 7th DUI

Joseph R. Dopirak Jr., 50, Felton, Del.

Harrington Police say they arrested a Felton man on Saturday for his seventh DUI offense.

Police say at around 1:52 AM, police saw a vehicle speeding on Fairgrounds Road. They report the vehicle then turned south onto the northbound lanes of South DuPont Highway.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested 50-year-old Joseph R. Dopirak Jr. after he failed field sobriety testing.

Once in custody, Dopirak reportedly refused an intoxilyzer test and police obtained a warrant for a blood draw.

Police found that Dopirak had six previous DUI convictions and was prohibited from driving a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.

Dopirak is charged with 7th offense driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle in violation of restrictions, driving the wrong way on a one way road and failure to obey a traffic control device.

He has been committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of a secured bond, officials said.
