Easton woman arrested for stealing dog

Police say one person has been arrested in connection with a dog theft in Easton.

According to Easton Police, on December 30, officers were called to the Greens Apartment Complex in regards to a dog theft.

When officers arrived, they found that a victim allegedly witnessed one of her dogs being taken by a neighbor. The victim claimed that the perpetrator fled to her own home with the eight-week-old puppy.

Police responded to the home in question and made contact with 58-year-old Jamie Mitchell of the Greens Apartment Complex on South Washington Street.

Mitchell reportedly admitted that the puppy was in her apartment, but when police asked her to get the puppy, she refused and became belligerent with officers.

Officers told her that if she did not get the puppy, then she would be arrested for theft. Officers also pointed out that the suspect was admitting that she had the puppy, and that she intended to keep it even though it was not hers.

The suspect continued to refuse to get the puppy, and she was arrested.

Police say Mitchell started a disorderly tirade drawing the attention of her neighbors. Mitchell also physically resisted the officers before she was securely placed into custody.

Mitchell was taken to the Easton Police Department to be processed.

Police were able to get the dog and give back to the rightful owner.

Mitchell was formally charged with fourth degree burglary, theft under $1,000.00, resisting arrest, and two counts of disorderly conduct. After she was processed she was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance hearing.

Mitchell was released on her own recognizance at that time pending trial in this matter.
