USDA funding for new city hall to close by end of Dec.

USDA funding for the construction of Rehoboth Beach City Hall appears to be coming sooner than expected, according to city officials.

Rehoboth Beach Mayor Sam Cooper says the city plans to close on the 18-million dollar loan by the end of December. The loan covers costs for construction and site work, among other items.

Mayor Cooper says interest rates have been on the decline in the past year; however, they anticipate a climb start next month.

Despite closing on the loan about a year early, he says this will not speed up the progress of construction.

Construction on City Hall is slated to finish by July 2017.

"We're very excited. As the building takes shape, it's getting more exciting to me. I wish it was under roof already but when they start on the interior, it's going tone really interesting and fun," says Mayor Cooper.

Cooper adds furnishing costs will come from the city. He says it will likely take about one million dollars.
