UPDATE: One person seriously injured after Bridgeville three car crash

Troopers in Delaware are investigating a serious crash in Bridgeville Wednesday involving three vehicles, and officials say alcohol may be to blame.

According to Delaware State Police, just before 5:45 PM 65-year-old James Wright, of Bridgeville was driving eastbound in the westbound lane of Heritage Drive in the Heritage Shores development. At the same time 17-year-old Brittany Hastings, of Seaford was driving northbound on Sussex Highway in the left lane approaching the entrance to Heritage Shores just ahead of 72-year-old Normand Saurette, of Bridgeville in the same lane.

Now this is what investigators say happened next, Wright crossed over the south bound lanes of Sussex Highway and entered the Sussex Highway northbound left turn lane for Heritage Shores Drive traveling the wrong direction. Wright immediately pulled into the northbound left lane traveling southbound hitting Hastings. Wright then hit Saurette in a near head-on impact within the left lane. Saurette continued northbound at which point the front of his truck hit the rear of Hastings car, causing her to rotate counter-clockwise. Saurette truck was redirected across the grass median and came to rest in the southbound lanes facing west. Wrigh jeep came to a stop in the center median crossover for Heritage Shores Drive just west of the northbound left turn lane.

Wright, who was properly restrained, was reportedly taken to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted in serious condition. Hastings and her two teenage passengers were all properly restrained and reportedly taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries. Saurette was reportedly not properly restrained and was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say, alcohol appears to be a factor on behalf of Wright and charges may be forthcoming.

The investigation is on going. Sussex Highway north and southbound lanes were closed between Cannon Road and Seashore Highway for four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
