Teacher of award: “This is my dream job…”

It was an emotional Monday morning for one Wicomico County teacher as she was named 47ABC's "Teachers Who Make A Difference" recipient.

Breonna Hopkins teaches math and science to about 43 fifth graders at East Salisbury Elementary, where she has been teaching for two years.

Hopkins has also been an instructional assistant in Wicomico County for about five years.

The school was in on the surprise. Students, as well as Hopkin's family, lined the hallway with signs congratulating her.

She tells us teaching can be a challenging profession; however, building relations with the students is important and can create a better learning environment.

Hopkins also adds, it doesn't hurt to have a strong support system.

"My parents have been my biggest support system. My mom and my dad…they've been there when I needed them," she said through tears. "They've pushed me, and I'm just so thankful because this my dream job. This is what I wanted to do, so they've always been there. My family."
