Salisbury Fire Department provides some holiday fire prevention tips

With the holidays right around the corner, the holiday season tends to be a time where there is an increased risk of home fires.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, fire departments tend to respond to over 200 home structure fires caused by Christmas trees each year.
One in three is caused by electrical problems. On average, one of every 34Christmas tree fires result in a death.
The Salisbury Fire Department has given 47 ABC a few tips on how to protect yourself.
They tell 47 ABC to be careful using extension cords and to not overload any outlets. They also say to not leave Christmas lights on while sleeping.
We are told if you have a real tree to water it regularly because it can dry up and be a fire hazard.
Newer lights are even safer, since they have extra wires included.
Other tips include remembering to turn off your oven after cooking and to avoid hanging laundry on a space heater to dry.
