Salisbury Elks Lodge 817 handed out over 100 baskets to families in need

The Salisbury Elks Lodge 817 met early this Saturday morning. Volunteers put together 120 baskets filled with all the holiday necessities for breakfast or dinner.

Plus, toys and blankets for families in need.

They were able to see which families to reach out to through a list given by social services. Local schools also provided a list full of families.

The donations came from the lodge directly but they did receive a helpful hand from local companies. They include Perdue providing chickens and Lewes Dairy donating milk.

The lodge's efforts go back as far as 62 years. President Jan Phipps says the inspiration comes from giving back. They hope to share this tradition with the next generation as well.

The Salisbury Elks Lodge 817 has donated more than one million dollars to local schools, fire departments and several organizations over the past ten years.
