Prince Street Elementary is collecting donations for local fire victims

A late night fire due to an electrical wire failure on December 15, 2016, led to a Salisbury house on Princeton Avenue having much damage to the structure, as well as to the family's belongings, leaving the entire family displaced.

And Prince Street Elementary decided to step in to help.

Principal Jason Millers tells 47 ABC they found out that it was one of their pre-k students and being displaced right before the holidays and during the cold snap is just one of the major reasons for their assistance.

The school counselor, Amber Justice is the coordinator for the entire collection. Justice created a casual day for the staff to donate funds for the family.

Justice tells 47 ABC that the family lost all of their clothing in this fire, so that's been the number one item that the family has requested.

Due to the weather, the family is requesting long sleeve shirts, coats, and any winter clothing as well.

For specific sizes, they are looking for a 5T in clothing and 11 in shoe for a 5-year-old girl, a 16 top and pant and 5 in shoe size for a 16-year-old girl, an XL top/38 pant and 11 shoe size for a 17-year-old boy, a L top/32 pant and 9 shoe size for a 17-year-old boy, a L top and 18 pant for an adult woman, a XL top and 18 pant for a pregnant woman, and a XL top and 8 in pants for a grandmother.

Folks at Prince Street says the school will be open until next Wednesday, December 21, 2016.
