Portion of Route 50 closed for hours due to fatal car accident

A portion of route 50 closed for hours tonight  due to a fatal car crash along route 50 near Willards.

According to authorities, at around 5 p.m. this evening a 71-year-old man was headed southbound on Powellville Road about to cross over Route 50, when he hit a Mountaire tractor trailer carrying chickesn  traveling westbound on 50.

Route 50 was closed  for almost 4 hours with roads finally clearing around 9 p.m. The 71-year-old man died at the scene and his name is not being released until family members have been notified.

Police tell us the Mountaire truck driver was not injured in the crash.
