Mrs. Camden Delaware America 2017 gives back to her community and her students

A shiny crown and sash representing Mrs. Camden Delaware America 2017 is worn by a mother, a high school English teacher, and a successful beauty YouTuber. Her name is Kimberly Phillips.

The Mrs. Delaware competition is a beauty pageant for married women across the first state.

To name a Mrs. Camden Delaware, directors weighed in on multiple contestants through an application process.

A big part of Phillip's application was her contribution to the community.

Phillips is a English teacher at Calvary Christian academy teaching 8th through 12th grade.

She's also designed a coat drive where her students donated 103 coats to a homeless shelter in Dover.

But that's not all, in February, she is taking students to the nursing home that is in Dover as well. From there, they will make cards and sing songs for Valentine's Day.

Phillips tells 47 ABC, these are just a few of events that are allowing her to connect with the community.

But it's also her connection with the students that is truly making an impact.

She says, "I want my students to realize that it's important to help others and so just by getting them involved in their community and seeing that there's so much out there and just letting them see there's others that could use their help is something that I really want them to see."

And prior to becoming a teacher, she was and still is beauty YouTuber.

Through that Youtube channel, which offers beauty tips and life advice, she has over 40,000 subscribers.

And when she started as a teacher, she says her students recognized her.

From there, she started an after school group with girls to give some make up tips as well as advice on anything going on in their life.

Phillips say, "I know high school can be a tough time so anything that can help them get through those situations."

But Phillips' biggest beauty tip isn't on the outside. She tells 47 ABC at the end of the day it's all about inner beauty and if you are feeling better about yourself on the outside, you're going to have positive self esteem. It's all about making yourself feel beautiful and it's not about what anyone else thinks as long as you feel good about yourself.

Phillips says even if there wasn't a crown, she would be still be giving back to the community regardless.

Phillips has been prepping for this pageant since October and the Mrs. Delaware America Pageant will take place on June 3rd, 2017.

And from there, if she happens to advance, she will head to Mrs. America Pageant in Las Vegas in August.
