More details emerge as MSP search for three suspects who impersonated police officers

Maryland State Police are currently searching for three suspects who reportedly posed as police officers yesterday, as they stopped a pregnant woman traveling through Worcester County.

A 38-year-old pregnant woman was driving from Brooklyn to Norfolk in a rented vehicle. Before 6 o’clock, she was stopped by police in Snow Hill, or so she thought.

Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley says a black Chevrolet SUV pulled up behind her as they had activated red and blue lights that appeared to be police emergency lights.

From there she pulled over. Shipley says she was approached by an African American male that was dressed in a coat and tie and he pepper sprayed her and her vehicle. She then got out of her vehicle and assaulted her.

Troopers say that’s when the suspect punched her in the stomach.

But he wasn’t alone, a second suspect reportedly had a small black handgun and grabbed her purse, which had her cash and jewelry inside.

A third suspect remained at the back of the suspect’s car. The three suspects then left in their SUV.

After the assault, the victim says she wanted to get to a safer area. Luckily she still had her cell phone and called police, who told her to stop so that they could find her.

The woman was stopped and assaulted in the area of Whiton Road in Snow Hill then she drove 4 minutes up the road and was found by police on the corner of Powellville Road and Webb Road.

The victim was treated at PRMC and later released.

MSP are searching for these individuals and a black Chevrolet SUV with Maryland tags and the search is continuing.

Officials say if anyone has any information regarding this incident, to please call Maryland State Police at their Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101.

With a scary situation like this, Maryland State Police say there are ways to avoid becoming a victim of those pretending to be an officer.

If you feel something does not feel right, officials say the first thing you should do is call 9-1-1, and tell police your location and description of your vehicle.

While waiting, tell the person that you are waiting for police to come.

If you are in a situation where an impersonator comes to your window, keep your door shut and do not get out of the car.

MSP say you should also ask the person for their badge and police I.D.

If the person does not have these two things, wait for an authority to arrive at the scene.

The biggest tip MSP provides is if at all possible, respond to a well lit and more populated area, even then stay on the phone with 9-1-1. Then put your four way flashers on, obey the speed limit to the location where you feel safest. Stay on the phone with 9-1-1 and wait for that uniformed officer to show up.
