Md. Chiefs of Police director resigns amidst controversy

The executive director for the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association has resigned after he was charged with soliciting a prostitute.

The 71-year-old Larry Harmel was charged last week after an October police sting revealed he allegedly solicited sexual services from an undercover officer.

According to David Morris, president of the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association (MCPA), executive board members met with Harmel on Dec. 12 after learning of the criminal charges against him. During that meeting Harmel agreed to resign from his position.

"This unfortunate development deepy saddens the executive board, and we respect Mr. Harmel's privacy as he and his family work through this personal matter," Morris said.
