Matthews’ Hot Hand Burns Bucs At Home

The Smyrna boys basketball team defeat Milford Tuesday night by a score of 63 to 41. The win improves the Eagles to 5-0, while the loss drops the Buccaneers to 3-3.
Milford's offense came out of the gates fast as they went on a 7-2 early on in the game. Christopher Sampson and Jackson Turner were the Bucs scorers in the first quarter and they weren't backing down. run The Eagles came out on fire seeming as if they couldn't miss. Matthews for Smyrna had four three pointers in the first half alone. Smyrna's offense made five threes in the second quarter as they just couldn't miss if they wanted to. Milford began to struggle on offense as a key player for them in Brion Murray was being taken out of the game by high intensity defense by the Eagles. Sampson for the Buccaneers stepped up big tonight in his place as he had the hot hand for Milford and finished with 15 points. Tonight was just Smyrna's night as they are a highly defensive team and were also making shots on offense. Caleb Matthews was the talk of the night as he was scoring from everywhere on the court and just couldn't be stopped. Once the Eagles pulled away they never looked back, kept their foot on the pedal and went on to win this one big.
The Eagles will return to action on December 27th, against Bishop McNamara High School on January 3rd facing up against Indian River High School.
